Emerging technologies
5 podcast episodes produced by Numana in 2023 to better understand the emerging technologies we study and their impact on society.

Why did Numana choose this project?
Podcasts have become a very popular and effective medium for telling the story of any subject, no matter how complex. And ours can be very complex!
Our think tanks reports aim to educate, but can be intimidating or unsuitable for some people’s documentation habits. That’s why, in 2023, we thought we’d try our hand at podcasts.
Although they’ve been a great success, regular episodic production involves constraints that are currently beyond our scope.
These podcasts are now finished, but you never know!
Our first episode explores the impact that spatial data can have on all Quebec ecosystems, and the importance of using it. Let our experts guide you: Martine Rioux (coordinator and editor of the report), Patrick Cohendet and Marie Lucy Stojak (professor-researchers at HEC Montréal) and Alexis Landreville (Director of External Affairs at Northstar).
The second episode looks at the impact of technology on the health of the elderly, and how it can promote their autonomy by adapting to their needs. In particular, we’ll look at how an intelligent environment can improve their living environment. The guests are Pascal Beauchesne (HealthTech project coordinator at Numana), Nathalie Bier (full professor at Université de Montréal’s École de la réadaptation) and Hélène Pigot (computer science professor at Université de Sherbrooke and founder of the NPO Ixia).
The third episode features an enriching conversation led by quantum technology professionals on the creation of quantum networks here in Quebec, the acceleration of fundamental and applied research, and the development of innovative companies in this field. The experts invited to this episode are: François Borrelli (CEO of Numana), Christian Sarra-Bournet (Executive Director of Institut Quantique) and David Roy-Guay (CEO of SBQuantum).
The fourth episode looks at the importance of including empathy – that is, thinking about human well-being – in the technological advances that concern developments in our buildings and cities. The guests are: François Bédard (Advisor, Empathetic & Intelligent Building), Ursula Eicker (professor-researcher at Concordia University) and Natalie Voland (CEO of Quo Vadis).
The fifth episode features discussions on understanding the “Metaverse” and its growing presence in our daily lives. Its impacts, future spin-offs and recent innovations are discussed. The guests are : Florian Saugues (director of Numana’s research project), Marie-Hélène Parizeau (philosophy professor at Université Laval) and Harold Dumur (president and founder of OVA).
